Lisbon Area

Portugal's central coast streching from Ericeira to Peniche contains some of the finest surf spots on the planet. Supertubos and Coxos are legendary and world class waves that attract both local and travelling surfers, but these are by no means the only heaving sucky barrels to be had along this coast. Ericeira alone has at least five classic reef breaks and loads of lesser surfed breaks and mellow beachbreaks. In the winter months the beaches around Peniche are becoming very popular with kitesurfers looking for a winter fix.

Peniche & Baleal

Peniche is located about a 90 minute drive from Lisbon airport. Peniche is a small busy town with a harbour at its centre. There is an excellent selection of shops, bars and restaurants within the old, walled town of Peniche. Peniche also boasts some amazing, long, golden stretches of beach which are popular in the summer with holiday makers from Lisbon. They are also popular with kitesurfers and surfers.

Just outside Peniche is Baleal. This pretty little village is surrounded by golden beaches. Wherever you are, you are only a minute from the ocean. Baleal has a small selection of restaurants and bars offering fresh sardines and excellent meat dishes from Brazil. It is a popular place with surfers, kitesurfers and Portuguese escaping from Lisbon.

Peniche and Baleal has been a magnet for surfers for over a decade. This is due to the wide variety of surf spots working in different conditions within a 15km radius of the town. It´s a great place to go if you are looking for laid back nightlife and surf. We think there´s something in this area for beginners, newbies and intermediate surfers.

This area is also good for kitesurfers looking for a short haul break in winter. From February to June, the beaches aren´t busy and the conditions are favourable for kitesurfers.
